Kyono

Kyono is a self-taught artist from a small village in East Java, whose creative journey began with sculpting. His early years were spent shaping forms in three dimensions—an instinct that still breathes through his paintings today. Over time, the pull of color, gesture, and surface led him to canvas, where he now explores the intimacy of daily life with a painter’s freedom and a sculptor’s sensibility.

His work often features women, animals, and quiet interior scenes—rendered in earthy palettes and expressive brushstrokes. There’s a rhythm to his compositions, as if each figure is caught in a still from a slow-moving dream. These moments—both tender and bold—feel timeless, nostalgic, and slightly surreal, inviting the viewer to pause and look a little longer.

Kyono’s paintings have been exhibited in several shows, including a group exhibition at Medium Gallery and a solo exhibition at Uluwatu Surf Villas. Though rooted in rural beginnings, his work travels far—bridging tradition and experimentation with a voice that is uniquely his: quietly observant, a little eccentric, and full of soul.
